Historic Canton, Mississippi, is a typical small southern town and is the county seat of Madison County.  Canton real estate   is located in the exact center of the county, approximately 20 miles north of Jackson.   It was the location of filming the movies A Time to Kill (1996) and My Dog Skip (2000).

A Brief History of Canton
Canton real estate was incorporated in 1834 with a community of 400 people.  And, by 1838, Canton had two banks, two hotels, dry-goods stores, a drugstore, a few grocery stores, a bakery, a tin shop, a livery stable, tailor shops and two watchmakers.  The public buildings were a courthouse, a jail, a church and a female academy.

Canton has been through many changes and set backs, but, by 1991, the city was ahead of its time and now, through the partnership created with the public and private sector, Canton real estate has recaptured the feeling of "stepping back in time" while re-creating a central business district that is positioning Canton for its place in the 21st century.

Canton Education
Students of attending Canton schools receive their public education through the Canton School District and the Madison County School District.  There are four elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, an educational services center, an alternative school, a career center and a vocational complex occupying Canton real estate.  There are also two private schools available as an alternative to public education.
