History of Flowood
Flowood real estate began as a dream of a few people wanting to start their own town along the Pearl River's fertile riverbanks in 1951. By 1953, they were allowed to incorporate Flowood as a town. Companies began to take notice of this sleepy little town as a great place to conduct business and, by the 1960s, they began to relocate here. Families were quick to follow to jobs that sprouted up here. A huge flood in 1979 caused a devastating amount of damage to the city. But, through the perseverance of its citizens, Flowood real estate grew back stronger and healthier than before. When the town of Flowood officially became a city in 1990, the city government could offer even better incentives for businesses to relocate here. Its continued dedication to creating a profitable business location while keeping an eye on providing a safe place to raise a family has made Flowood real estate thrive.
Built in 1925 and listed as a historic place in the National Register in 1988, Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge is one of just two open spandrel arch bridges in Mississippi. Its rehabilitation reestablished a vital and historically significant highway linkage across the Pearl River.
